How to Care for Mature Aged Skin

We all know that as we get older, our skin changes. Fine lines and wrinkles appear, skin becomes drier and loses elasticity, and age spots (dark spots) become more visible. But that doesn’t mean you have to accept these changes as inevitable. With a proactive, preventive and protective approach, you can keep your skin looking healthy, smoother and firmer for longer.

The Signs of ageing - what to look out for - Throughout our lives, our faces go through a lot of changes. But at what age does your face change the most — and crucially, when does the skin ageing process begin to accelerate?

For most people, the answer is around the age of 40, although we begin to see a decline in collagen and elastin around 30. Skin becomes less elastic, which contributes to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Additional characteristics of ageing skin include:

  1. Darker pigmentation — The result of accumulated exposure to UV rays and pollution.
  1. Skin tone discolouration - A decrease in pigment-containing cells called melanocytes means the colouring of our skin becomes uneven and will appear lighter in some areas.
  1. Increased pore size — As your skin loses its elasticity, coupled with solar damage, it stretches and sags, making pores appear more prominent.
  1. Reduced oil production — This makes it harder to keep the skin moist, resulting in dryness and itchiness.
  1. Reduced volume — The fatty tissues beneath the skin begin to break down, leading to a loss of definition in the face.
  1. Rough skin texture - This is due to cell turnover and renewal slowing down as we age, resulting in an excess build-up of dead skin cells on the skin’s surface.

While these changes can be frustrating, there are many facial treatments that can help rejuvenate the skin. For example, oily ageing skin will likely benefit from using a non-foaming cleanser and a light gel moisturiser that won’t clog pores. Meanwhile, dry skin types are better suited to deeply hydrating creams and skin-buffing exfoliators, such as a rich overnight serum and daily exfoliant. People with sensitive skin should avoid overloading the skin with potent actives, which can trigger irritation and redness, whereas those with adult acne will benefit from applying these ingredients regularly.

Dermalogica’s makes it easy to adapt your skincare routine and keep your skin looking and feeling its healthiest. Here are our go-to products for signs of ageing skin:

  1. Intensive Moisture Cleanser — This light, creamy formula cleanses skin to minimise damage to vital proteins and lipids that defend against dryness. Lather a pea-size amount into wet hands, massage your face and rinse away for cleaner, softer, more luminous skin.
  2. Daily Superfoliant —  Activated Binchotan Charcoal purifies the skin while Alpha Hydroxy Acids resurface and deeply cleanse, leaving you with ultrasmooth, protected skin.
  3. Super Rich Repair  — A heavyweight moisturiser that helps to replenish the skin’s natural moisture levels overnight.
  4. Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque  — This ultra-replenishing weekly masque is loaded with high concentrations of Vitamins A, C and E, and Linoleic Acid, which strengthen and restore damaged skin to enhance its barrier properties.
  5. AGE Reversal Eye Complex— Delivers potent age-fighting actives deep into the skin,  to help reduce the appearance of fine lines around the delicate eye area.
  6. Overnight Retinol Repair - — Harness the power of active 0.5% microencapsulated pure Retinol to accelerate skin renewal and repair as you sleep.
  7. Phyto Nature Firming Serum — With just one application, this dual-phase serum combines highly active botanicals with biomimetic technology that mimics age declining skin processes, to reduce visible signs of ageing while revitalising skin luminosity.

Try these preventative measures to keep your skin looking younger for longer

Follow our preventative tips to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and age spots:

Always use SPF — Exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays speeds up the skin ageing process by breaking down the proteins that provide firmness and elasticity. Wear an SPF of 30 or higher, even if you don’t plan on spending time outdoors, and 50 or higher if you’re using retinoids, as they cause photosensitivity.                                                                               For a sunscreen and moisturiser in one that combats the appearance of skin ageing, Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 is a medium-weight formula that boosts skin hydration. Enriched with powerful antioxidants like White Tea, this unique formula also helps to improve the appearance of photoaged skin.                                                                                          For a sunscreen that shields against dark spots while reducing uneven pigmentation and balancing skin tone, our  Powerbright Moisturiser SPF50 should be your go-to - it’s also a daytime moisturiser. Infused with hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, Licorice Root Extract and Bisabolol, this powerful formula works to strengthen the skin’s moisture barrier while brightening and soothing irritation.
  1.  Protect against Pollution  — Pollution oxidises the lipid layer in the skin, impairing the skin-barrier function — resulting in increased sebum (oil) excretion, dehydration, uneven skin tone, dullness and premature signs of skin ageing. Protecting against environmental aggressors and applying SPF will prevent these age accelerating environmental triggers..
  2. Exfoliate Regularly — As you age, your skin’s natural exfoliation process slows down. Exfoliating speeds up cellular turnover, softening fine lines and wrinkles and diminishing hyperpigmentation to reveal brighter, more radiant skin.
  3. Cleanse Gently — How you apply your products matters, too. Avoid scrubbing your skin too harshly when you’re washing your face, as this can damage delicate skin and make fine lines and wrinkles more visible.
  4. Moisturise daily — Ageing skin is more susceptible to dryness, so it’s important to keep it well-moisturised. Look for a moisturiser suitable for your skin type and apply it every morning and night after a nourishing serum.
  5. Restoring Lost Collagen — While it may seem like your depleted collagen stores are lost forever, there are a few ways to help your body regain some of this essential protein. One way to do this is through your diet.                                                                                                       Eating foods rich in Vitamin C and consuming plenty of anti-inflammatory Omega-3 Fatty Acids can help promote collagen synthesis. Using Retinol, Peptides, and Vitamin C products can also stimulate collagen production, and treatments like microneedling and red LED light therapy can encourage collagen growth. Coupled with skincare designed to stimulate collagen production, regular exercise is one of the best ways to combat these effects. Getting active promotes collagen production — particularly high-intensity interval training, or ‘HIIT’.

The Importance of Exfoliation

Daily exfoliation is the key to boosting cell turnover for smoother, brighter skin.

Healthy-looking skin requires a combination of chemical exfoliation, physical exfoliation, and enzymatic exfoliation

When it comes to exfoliation, you may be asking yourself one simple question: Do I really have to exfoliate every day? Or, even more to the point, should I exfoliate every day?

what is exfoliation?

The skin is constantly generating new cells at the lower dermis level to replace dead skin cells on the upper layer, otherwise known as the epidermis. As we age, our cell turnover process slows down and cells gather unevenly on the skin’s surface, which leads to dull skin, dry skin, rough skin, and an overall lackluster appearance.   Exfoliating every day helps to remove dead skin cells, revealing the fresh, young cells below. Powder-based exfoliation, like Daily Milkfoliant, is one way to exfoliate the skin on your face and body. You can use this combination of physical, chemical, and enzymatic exfoliants every day because when activated by water, the oat-based, ultra-fine particles quickly dissolve into a creamy, frothy lather that smooths and soothes all skin.

so, do I need to exfoliate every day?

The short answer? Yes. Daily exfoliation is essential for smooth, healthy-looking skin but using the wrong exfoliant can cause:

  • Irritation, Increased sensitivity, Breakouts, Dry, dehydrated flaky skin

what exfoliant should I use daily?  Daily Milkfoliant is the peaceful way to exfoliate every day. This calming vegan exfoliating powder polishes skin while supporting the moisture barrier for healthier-looking skin. It contains Oat and Coconut, which activate upon contact with water and release botanical extracts rich in Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs). This helps polish away dead skin cells and removes dulling surface debris for a more even skin tone and texture.

When it comes to finding a gentle exfoliant, look no further. Daily Milkfoliant contains active ingredients that work together to polish your skin to perfection. Along with Oat and Coconut, you’ll find the following ingredients that help nourish the skin and replenish the moisture barrier for more hydrated, healthy-looking skin:

  • Essential minerals
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Saccharide and Atomized Sea Salt.

Exfoliation is especially helpful to those with oily skin. In addition to smoothing, improving skin tone and enhancing skin's receptiveness of oil-controlling ingredients, exfoliation helps rid oily skin of dulling skin cells to help keep skin clear.

Exfoliation delivers a tighter, firmer, smoother look and feel of skin. Because of this result, many fall into the trap of over-exfoliation: an over-zealous approach that can actually reduce skin’s vitality and make it more susceptible to damage from UV light.

Over-exfoliation triggers the inflammatory response, leading to a compromised lipid barrier that won’t function properly, a sensitized skin condition, and accelerated premature aging.

Tell-tale signs of over-exfoliated skin include:

  • noticeable dehydration
  • patchy areas of dryness
  • skin tautness
  • redness and itchiness
  • increased sensitivity
  • inflammatory acne and irritation

After skin recovery, begin exfoliating with a gentle exfoliant designed for daily use. If you desire a more intense level of exfoliation, look to non-abrasive exfoliants containing chemicals like Salicylic or Lactic Acid. .

What is Activated Charcoal, and why is it so effective in skin care? This powerful detoxifying ingredient is much more than it seems. Unlike the Charcoal typically found in a grill, Activated Charcoal is a carbonised, mineral-rich material that can adsorb more than 1,000 times its weight in positively-charged compounds.

We use Activated Binchotan Charcoal in our Daily Superfoliant.   Daily Superfoliant is a highly-active resurfacer, delivering your smoothest skin whilst helping to fight environmental triggers that are known to accelerate skin ageing. Activating upon contact with water, it purifies the skin and absorbs toxins from deep within pores. It also contains skin-smoothing AHAs, Niacinamide, Red Algae and Tara Fruit Extract to guard against the effects of pollution.

Which Toner Is Right for Your Skin

Why Use a Toner?  -   What to Look for   -   Understand the Benefits

TONERS were used to 'remove' Mineral Oil based cleansers, that is because Mineral Oil cannot be washed off the skin.  Toners then contained SD Alcohol to remove both the cleanser and mineral oil.  These toners caused irritation and dryness to the skin, so most people avoided using them.
Today a toner is a water-based solution that helps balance the skin’s pH levels and hydrate the skin.  They also act as a primer and allows the remainder of your products to penetrate the skin more effectively.                                             How do your use toner? A toner is ideally used after cleansing the skin.  Your toner comes in a spray, which can be spritzed onto the skin both during your skincare routine and throughout the day as needed.  This also helps to deliver essential moisture to your skin.  A toner can also come in the form of an essence such as Dermalogica Redness Relief Essence. Which is a slightly richer product form that helps deliver benefits to the skin.                             What are the benefits of a toner? Toners deliver added nutrients & benefits into your skincare routine e.g. cleaning clogged pores, & removing dulling surface cells.                                                                                                    Why should I use a toner after cleansing?  The main reason is to fully cleanse your skin. When you double cleanse, some oil or debris may be left behind.  Toner also helps to refine the skin after cleansing.                                How often should I use toner?  Incorporate it into your cleansing routine using it both morning and evening skincare routines.

Finally, toner is available as a mist or an essence, both of which are slightly richer product forms that help deliver benefits to the skin. After applying toner, you can then follow with the rest of your skincare routine — moisturisers, serums, eye treatments, sunscreen, et cetera!

So, next time you ask yourself whether to 'tone or not to tone'. The answer is a booming Yes!

To help you choose a toner specific for your skin. Scroll through -

What Serum do I use and how do I use them?  How do I layer my Serums?

What Serum Do I Use and How Do I Use Them

What Serum Do I Use and How Do I Use Them?

There are a lot of serums out there today & many have overlapping benefits.  To help you choose the right Dermalogica serum for your skin condition at the moment.  I have put together this guide.                                                         What is a serum anyway? They are topical treatments that target skin concerns.  They are usually applied after cleansing and/or exfoliating, but before facial oils or moisturisers, for the best results.                                                                         Facial oils and moisturisers can create a protective barrier that prevents serum from absorbing into your skin surface which is why serums should go on first.  You can apply one serum or layer different serums on top of one another to treat different concerns.

How to I Layer Serums? Apply your serums from lightest texture to heaviest texture.

DEHYDRATION - Circular Hydration Serum is a new serum just released.  It immediately hydrates to quench dehydrated skin, while delivery long lasting hydration. You can apply it with another serum also. I use it in the evening and then apply the Overnight Repair Serum with the Super Rich Repair.

WRINKLES – My top choice is the Phyto-Nature Firming Serum which is actually two serums in one.  It uses biomimetic peptides and potent botanicals to reawaken the nature of younger-looking skin. It doubles the skin’s luminosity after just 1 application while minimises the appearance of fine lines.  It reduces visible wrinkles in 4 weeks. I find it great to mix it with the PowerBright Dark Spot Serum for my winter skin programme after spending so much time in our gorgeous summer sun.

ACNE & ANTI AGEING – Daytime to clear breakouts and treat related signs of ageing simultaneously by using a 2-in-1 solution of AGE Bright Clearing Serum. It exfoliates to help prevent breakouts and accelerate cell turnover.  It also boosts skin radiance in 1 week while reducing the appearance of breakouts and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in 4 weeks.                                           For nighttime I would suggest the Retinol Clearing Oil as it combines Retinol and Salicylic Acid into one skin-soothing formula that exfoliates to help prevent and accelerate cell turnover. It renews and soothes skin overnight, for a more vibrant skin by morning.  Even though it is not a Serum, the two together improve the skin so much.

DULLNESS – My choice for this would be the BioLumin-C Serum. This brightening Vitamin C serum outperforms the competition by delivery three times more Vitamin C to the skin, while also exfoliating and reducing unbalanced pigmentation. It also prevents and corrects free radical damage while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  You could use the Circular Hydration Serum with this and your skin will look nourished & supple.

HYPERPIGMENTATION - I use the PowerBright Dark Spot Serum, it starts fading the appearance of dark spots within days. It also helps prevent future dark spots and brightens and boosts the skin’s natural luminosity.  Mine are caused by age (and the sun).

SENSITIVITY – The top choice is UltraCalming Serum Concentrate this is the ultimate antidote for sensitive skin. It is a super concentrated gel that is packed with skin soothing ingredients.

It helps to calm and prevent flare-ups, itching & redness. Also helps restore the sensitised skin – great after non-invasive procedures & saunas.

UNEVEN TEXTURE – My vote is for MultiVitamin Power Serum. I love the feel of it on my skin, it is so velvety smooth. It provides the antioxidant protection but vitamins A, C, & E. Helps to retexturise and revitalise your skin while minimising the appearance of fine lines and sun-induced skin ageing. Your skin will feel revitalised.

NECK & DECOLLETE - Don’t neglect your neck, it will show your age first. Neck Fit Contour Serum give your neck and décolleté a skin care workout.  It smooths & firms the skin on the neck & décolleté.  Immediately tightens the skin & tones it over time for a visibly lifted and sculpted appearance.  The rollers are so relaxing to use. You must try this one. It gets rid of that scraggy look.

SMART RESPONSE SERUM - This is the next-gen serum that delivers what your skin needs, when it needs it. It helps stop skin damage before it starts – using four smart actives which when triggered, hydrate, brighten, soothe, and address the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in response to skin’s changing needs.

Neck Skin & Ageing

No matter how healthy your face looks, your neckline can tell a different story.        That’s because neck skin is thin, delicate, and more vulnerable to sun damage, photosensitisation from fragrances, and the wrinkle-deepening motion of looking down at your devices.                                                                                                          Unlike skin on the face, neck skin has less collagen. It’s also “stretchier” than skin on your cheeks and loses strength and flexibility with age – kind of like a rubber band. All these factors increase the appearance of neck sagging, lines, creases, uneven skin tone and texture

NECK SKIN AND AGEING

WHY DOES NECK SKIN SAG?

  • The skin on your neck is thin, delicate and has less collagen than the skin on your face.
  • Most people neglect to include the neck area in their skin care regimens, but giving this area specialised care can help it look smooth, tight and toned.

How To Tighten Your Neck Skin Without Surgery!

Neck skin care is often not a specialised part of daily skin care regimens.                  Most people extend products meant for the face down to the neck and chest instead of using products specifically meant for the neck and décolleté.                                      While this is a good start, using products designed for the neck area and adjusting your lifestyle habits can help keep skin looking tight and toned.

  • Use a neck skin tightening serum morning and night. A neck serum such as Neck Fit Contour Serum is a great way to add specialised neck care to your usual skin care regimen.                                                                                    Neck serums are typically formulated to help visibly tighten and strengthen skin on the neck area. They can be applied before your moisturiser to help lift and firm the appearance of your neck and décolleté.
  • Exercise your neck muscles. The major muscles running down the sides of our necks are not supported by bones the same way they are in the face, so they are naturally less taut and loosen more easily. As neck muscles weaken over time or with less use, neck skin starts to sag. Doing daily neck exercises can help strengthen neck muscles and make your neck look longer, leaner and more contoured.
  • Take more screen breaks. Not all neck lines come from ageing. Looking down at your devices may deepen the appearance of neck creases, even in your 20s. By keeping your chin up more often, you can help counter the development of deep neck lines.
  • Avoid using fragrances on your neck. Many perfumes and colognes are photosensitisers, which means they generate free radicals when activated by sunlight. This makes your skin more sensitive to sunlight and leads to an increased appearance of skin ageing. If you must use a fragrance, apply it in a less exposed area or switch to a non-photosensitizing fragrance.
  • Protect your neck and décolleté with sunscreen. Sun damage accelerates signs of skin ageing, so if you want to keep uneven skin tone, wrinkles and sagging at bay, make it a habit to apply SPF to your neck area daily.

While the appearance of your neck is somewhat determined by your genetics, you can still achieve your neck’s best appearance with your skin care regimen and lifestyle. Making these six habits part of your day will go a long way toward keeping the skin on your neck taut and toned.

Three Melanoma Myths You Should Stop Believing Today

Three Melanoma Myths You Should Stop Believing Today.

Myth 1: Sunscreen Is Just for Beach Days -
Most of the sun damage we accumulate over our lifetimes comes from incidental exposure, i.e. the bits of sun we get popping out for lunch, walking to work and driving to footy practice, not from long days at the beach. So if you’re not yet in the habit of wearing SPF on the regular, there’s no better time to start than right now.
Incorporate an SPF for face and a body sunscreen into your daily routine and you won’t ever have to worry about it. Stash a bottle or two in your handbag or car for reapplication and you’ll never be caught without.

Myth 2: Sunscreen Is Horrible to Use -
While it’s true that the sunscreens and SPF moisturisers of years past were unpleasant to use, things have come a long way. Now there are incredible formulas on the market that tick all the boxes - high protection, no white cast, non-greasy, won’t dry skin out, don’t pill on top of skincare and do play well with makeup. They say the best sunscreen for your face is one you’ll wear every day so find a favourite and apply it generously.

There are dozens of options available, including sunscreens for dry skin, sunscreens for sensitive skin, sunscreens for oily and acne-prone skin, and even those with added anti-ageing beauty benefits. (Important reminder: You need at least half a teaspoon on your face to achieve the SPF rating stated on the bottle.)

Myth 3: It’s Possible to Tan Safely -                                                                   It baffles me that there are still people out there who believe that their skin has a magical capacity to protect itself against the fiery ball in the sky all alone. Some of these people say that they can ‘tan safely’ by doing it slowly and over time. Let me remind you that there is no such thing as a safe suntan. A suntan is actually proof that sun damage has occurred - it’s what happens when your skin produces more melanin in response to being fried in the sun. It’s quite literally a response to DNA damage. Also? A suntan is only estimated to provide SPF3 or thereabouts, depending on your skin type. That’s not much. Don’t be sun-silly - use SPF.

Rooted in education, dermalogica strives to inform every individual about skin health. This summer, we’re focused on shedding light on the importance of sun protection and why all Australians should wear spf every day. From October 1st- December 31st, we’re donating $1 from every SPF product sold on dermalogica.com.au to life-saving Melanoma research. Join us and help make a difference!

What's the right way to exfoliate?

Fact: there *is* a right way to exfoliate. Here’s everything you need to know.

  • Incorporating regular exfoliation into your skin care routine is key in maintaining luminous, healthy-looking skin.
  • It’s important to hydrate immediately after exfoliating for best results.

If you’re reading this, you probably already know that regular exfoliation helps to reveal brighter, fresher-looking skin. That’s because exfoliating speeds up the skin’s natural exfoliation process. But did you know that, done right, exfoliation can also help all your other skin care products work their best? It’s true: if you don’t remove dulling, dead skin cells via exfoliation, they can form a barrier that prevents the active ingredients in your skin care products from properly penetrating the skin.                                                                                        Here’s how to fit regular exfoliation into your skin care regimen for luminous, healthy-looking skin:

1. double cleanse  - Proper exfoliation starts with clean skin – and that means the Dermalogica Double Cleanse, starting with PreCleanse and finishing with your prescribed Dermalogica cleanser. This two-step routine is the best way to remove make-up residue, excess oil, and other impurities so that your exfoliant can do its job.

2. exfoliate - Chemical vs. physical, daily vs. weekly: the first step is finding the right exfoliant for your skin. To avoid over-exfoliating, choose one that works with your skin condition.

3. hydrate - Exfoliation removes dulling, dead skin cells that prevent skin care products from penetrating properly – which means that the best time to hydrate is immediately after you exfoliate. If you’re looking for extra hydration, try Hydro Masque Exfoliant: its dual-action formula delivers an intense hydration boost while you exfoliate.

4. apply targeted treatments - Now that skin is properly hydrated and primed for product absorption, it’s time to apply your targeted treatments

For Healthy Glowing Winter Skin

For Healthy Glowing Winter Skin
When it comes to my skin, winter is not kind. I know the chilliest season has officially arrived when dry patches start to form around my lips and nose, and my skin takes on a texture somewhere in between a roll of sandpaper and the Sahara desert. Between the dry winter air, low temperatures, over exposure to air conditioning, and a slight addiction to super hot showers, my skin becomes dehydrated, irritated and itchy, and my fine lines and wrinkles come out of hiding. The question on everyone’s chapped lips: How do we combat this?
Winter air is less humid than summer air, and when combined with other factors like heating and hot showers, our skin becomes as thirsty as a millennial on a Friday night. Our outer skin layers are composed of lipids and fats that protect the skin from drying out, and hot water, dry air and harsh soaps cause that layer to break down faster. Whelp. Our skin changes with each passing of the season, and therefore it makes sense that our skincare routines need to change to match this. Read on for a winter skin regimen packed with products that’ll have your skin hydrated and glowing in no time…
Cleansing Oil - When the temperatures start to drop, it’s a good idea to swap out your regular face wash for a cleansing oil such as PreCleanse or PreCleanse Balm. Your regular routine may be stripping away natural oils, whereas a cleansing oil will usually contain essential fatty acids that moisturise the skin, making it feel supple and soft.
Cleanser (milk or cream) - Similarly, a milk, lotion or cream-based cleanser will help to soothe and condition skin, so that it doesn’t feel even drier after cleansing. You could try the new Intensive Moisture Cleanser or UltraCalming Cleanser.
Face Oil - Like a kitten to a saucer of milk, your skin will lap up face oil with glee in the winter months. The key is finding oils that are hydrating but not comedogenic (i.e. pore clogging), with an ingredients list that includes argan, safflower, sweet almond, or camellia which is in the Phyto Replenish Oil.
Serum/Booster - Since your skin needs a helping hand through these frigid months, a serum or booster is a non-negotiable element in your skincare routine. Try the new Multivitamin Power Serum, or the popular BioLumin C Serum which containes Argan, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, sunflower seed oil, and linseed oil are all incredibly adept ingredients at bringing dry, dull winter skin back to life.
Exfoliator - A gentle cream exfoliator will be your BFF during the winter months. Just don’t overdo it—exfoliating too often can cause redness, sensitivity and tightness in the skin. The Daily Microfoliant is a wonderful daily exfoliant which is so gentle on your skin.
Moisturiser - During winter, your skin will require a heavier moisturiser than it does in the warmer months. A long-lasting moisturiser or a thick cream containing hyaluronic acid or glycerin will help to draw in moisturiser, also. If your skin is sensitive, keep an eye out for products containing ceramides, which are naturally occurring lipids in the skin. Have your tried the new Barrier Defense Booster? You can mix this with you moisturiser.
Lip Balm - In saving the best part of your new regimen to last, it’s time to give your lips the TLC they deserve. Avocado, shea, cocoa seed, and aloe vera are all great options for both softening and healing dry, chapped lips. Dermalogica has both the Nightly Lip Treatment plus the Lip Renewal Complex.

LIGHT THERAPY FOR YOUR SKIN

photon led treatment
LED Light Photon with 3 colors Beauty Device
The power of LED light cannot be overemphasized. Since the discovery by NASA in 1990 that it affects living tissue, numerous researchers have shown that LED lights that have different wavelengths have slightly different beneficial effects on the skin, which aid in the healing and rejuvenating processes. Over the years, the LED light technology was adopted by dermatologists who were determined to help people gain back their youthful face or at best, a wrinkle-free face. However, the good news is that this technology is now available to all, in the comfort of your own home.
Function:
- Clear, lighten, smooth the skin
- Firm and enhance skin texture
- Reduce and prevent wrinkles, helps fight fatty areas
- Improve skin elasticity
- Accelerate blood circulation
- Minimize Pores
- Balance skin tone
- Enhance circulation
- Inhibit the formation of melanin pigment
LED Red light care:Wavelength of 625 nm red light can activate skin cell vitality, increase skin elasticity, promote circulation while improving the fine lines, it will also help to improve large pores. Will stimulate the production of collagen & activate skin cell vitality. Collagen is an essential protein used to repair damaged tissue and to replace old tissue.
LED Blue light care:Wavelength of 415 nm. It is anti-inflammatory & bactericidal. Adjusts the balance of skin, oil & water. Bacteria in acne contain porphyrins;the blue light is able to kill porphyrins due to the high affinity with this wave length.The blue light furthermore has calming action which is very effective for hypersensitivity. And in a very short period of time effectively reduce the number of acne bacillus, improve acne skin. The blue light penetrating about 0.5mm has the function of calming against skin rashes;
LED Yellow Light: Wavelength 590nm. Closest to the sun wavelength of light is called "the light of life", can replenish your skin, activate cell energy, accelerate blood circulation and the new and old cell replacement, effectively improve dark skin. Sunscreen Laws!

Sunscreen Laws!
The laws have shifted recently in Australia with the requirement and regulation of SPF 50+ on our shelves. This has caused an obvious confusion as to how long can you dare to bare.
How well a sunscreen works is determined by testing two properties.
1. the 'sun protection factor' (SPF) - which measures the degree of protection against UVB radiation.
2. the 'broad spectrum performance' which is a measure of the degree of protection from UVA radiation.
While SPF 50+ sunscreens provide better broad spectrum performance, this does not mean you have a 'suit of armour' people still need to be SunSmart. You need to apply SPF 50+ sunscreen just as liberally as SPF 30+. In addition, as with other sunscreens, SPF 50+ may rub off through towelling, swimming, and perspiration. The rule for applyIng SPF 50+ remains the same: apply liberally and re-apply liberally every 2 hours.
Being SunSmart is still important, clothing, hats, sunglasses, keeping to the shade and avoiding excessive exposure of the skin to the sun's radiation.
NANOPARTICLES - Humans are exposed to nanoscale particles in the environment in the form of smoke, dust, ash and fine clays through the air, food and water. Foods are also naturally composed of nanoscale components. They are used in a variety of therapeutic products including some sunscreen.
Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide were the first ingredients to be used in Australian sunscreens in nanoparticle form, however, other ingredients may be used in nanoparticle form if approved by the TGA. Evidence shows that the particles remain on the surface of the skin, which is composed of non-viable (dead) cells and pose no threat to human health . There is no evidence suggesting that nanoparticles in sunscreen are unsafe. Sunscreens deemed to be unsafe with or without nanoparticles, will not be approved and cannot be legally sold in Australia.
Skin is an excellent record keeper. Every moment of exposure to daylight adds up like money in the bank – the problem is the payoff known as sun damage (also known as photodamage). As the top cause of premature signs of skin aging, sun damage shows on skin in the form of wrinkles and hyperpigmentation, and can lead to a repressed immune system and the potential for skin cancer.
Even if exposure is limited to brief outdoor lunches or a 20-minute walk, cumulative exposure is enough to cause the signs of skin aging. The first line of daily defense against sun damage is daily use of SPF. Even on cloudy or overcast days, UV light can strike skin and cause damage, so simply wearing sunscreen on sunny days isn’t enough. Fortunately, more sophisticated sunscreen formulations with skin health benefits (think less chalky, less greasy) have made SPF a convenient addition to our morning routine. Dermalogica provides you with SPF moisturizers that can be worn comfortably under make-up, or alone to deliver defense against skin aging UV light.

6 Ways to Prevent Body Acne

6 ways to prevent body acne

Tips on how to change your lifestyle to change your skin!

Here's how.:

1.Wear natural fibres - This helps keep skin free from congestion caused by trapped sweat, dead skin cells, excess oil and bacteria.

2.Shower after perspiring - Letting sweat linger promotes an acne-friendly environment on your skin. If you can’t shower right away, apply a product that contains Salicylic Acid to help purify and clear skin of excess oils.

3. Exfoliate - Acne-prone skin tends to shed more skin cells, which can clog pores and cause acne if they aren’t removed. Exfoliate twice a week, using a gentle non-abrassive exfoliant.

4. Moisturise - Balance the skins moisture levels so that the skin doesn't overproduce oil to overcompensate. Choose a non-comedogenic moisturiser.

5. Clean your mobile-phone daily - Your cell phone harbors more bacteria than you know! Stop the spread of breakout causing bacteria.

6. Wash your pillowcase - Your pillowcase can collect oil, skin cells, bacteria and pore-clogging residue from hair products – all things that contribute to acne. Wash it at least once or twice a week help reduce congestion.

Spring weather arrives with puffy eyes

The glorious season of Spring has arrived, and while most of us are gearing up for some fun in the sun, outdoor picnics & barbeques, it is also known as the start of the allergy season.
Protecting your eyes from harmful rays is important year-round, but as things heat up, it becomes paramount. Your best bet is to select a pair of shades that block 100% of UV rays.
Waking up with puffy eyes can be really frustrating when you have a big day ahead. Puffy eyes occur when the eyes begin to swell for various reasons, including allergic reactions, excessive crying, excessive physical stress, genetics, hormonal changes in the body, a change in weather, sinus problems, hangovers, bad diet, Puffy eyes can make you look tired and ill.
Apply Dermalogica Stress Positive Eye Lift in the evening after cleansing and toning using the cool, metal tip of the product tube to perform the Dermalogica Eye Lift massage. (The steps come with the product.)You can also apply it throughout the day as needed for a quick boost.
The Stress Positive Eye Lift contains Wild Indigo Seed actives illuminate the eye area and help reduce the appearance of dark circles. This simple home remedy is surprisingly very effective. It will help tighten up the skin around your eyes as well as relax the blood vessels, thus offering relief to puffy and tired eyes.
Be it green tea bags or black tea bags, both can help soothe puffy and irritated eyes. They contain anti-irritant properties that help reduce swelling around your eyes. They can also relieve redness and inflammation. Put 2 used tea bags in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Lie down and put the tea bags over your eyelids. Leave them in place for 10 to 15 minutes.
Chilled cucumbers make a good remedy for treating puffy eyes. The enzymes and the astringent properties in cucumbers help reduce inflammation and help tighten the skin. This remedy will also help get rid of wrinkles and dark circles around your eyes
Cut a cucumber into thick slices. Chill the slices in the refrigerator for 10 minutes. Place the cold slices on your eyelids for about 10 minutes or until they become warm.

PRECLEANSE BALM WITH MITT 90ml + free samples +free express post

Our skin accumulates quite a bit of "dirt" on a daily basis. Environmental pollutants in the air, as well as cosmetics such as sunsreen and waterproof make-up, combine daily with the skin's naturally sticky sebum secretions to form a thick, slick, waxy coating on the skin by the middle of the day. Despite al this buildup, most people still only spend about 20 seconds washing their faces - much less than the time they spend doing hair or make-up. Those 20 seconds with standard face washes or make-up removal wipes are not enough to penetrate the layer of sebum, pollutants and cosmetic debris that coat the skin's surface. This lack of sufficient cleansing is what inspired the development of Dermalogica's top selling PreCleanse oil cleanser and Double Cleanse techqnique. Drawing on the suc cess and legacy of PreCleanse. NEW PreCleanse Balm gives you more options to remove stubboirn makeup and achieve a professional level of clean on a daily basis.

PIGMENTATION - HOW TO TREAT IT

PIGMENTATION - HOW TO TREAT IT
An uneven skin tone, called hyperpigmentation, is irregular darkening of the skin. The cause: overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair color. But what exactly is hyperpigmentation, and how does it affect skin? Let’s dive deeper.
The number one cause of hyperpigmentation is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays. And this doesn’t just apply to simple, daily exposure to UV rays alone; chemical fragrances may react with sunlight, medications may cause sun sensitivity, and dark patches may appear after invasive or strong peels where the skin has become sensitized. You may also notice hyperpigmentation during pregnancy (and post-pregnancy) in the form of Melasma (AKA Chlosma), which appears on the face, often in a butterfly formation. During times of stress skin can also hyperpigment, especially on the neck and around the temples, due to hormonal surges. Trauma to the skin (i.e. a graze on the knee, a squeeze of a spot, eczema or sinus congestion) can lead to pigmentation formation as well
You don’t have to spend a fortune on laser treatments and prescriptions. Here are ways to safely and non-invasively brighten skin for a more even skin tone:
1. Critical To A Healthy Glow Is A Smooth Skin - Enter Exfoliation!
Exfoliate. Treat existing hyperpigmentation by first sloughing off dead, dulling skin cells at the surface. Exfoliation not only smoothes skin but it also helps even out tone by speeding up the cell turnover rate, therefore assisting the removal of pigmentation patches. This clears the path for the ingredients in your serums and moisturizers to better penetrate the skin. Tip: Look for Dermalogica Daily Superfoliant for treatment deep down, stubborn, pigmented patches.
2. Shedding Light On Skin Brightening Products
Products that focus on skin brightening contain ingredients that act as melanin suppressants (the pigment that colors skin), such as the Phytic Acid found in rice. Newer ingredients, such as Zinc Glycinate, have been shown to reduce pigmentation as well as suppress the melanocyte growth factors that stimulate melanin synthesis. Many botanical extracts also inhibit melanin production, including Kiwi Fruit, Mulberry, Licorice and Giant Fennel. Apply Dermalogica C-12 Pure Bright Serum after cleansing and before moisturising to help address the pigmentation inbalance.
3. Protect and Hydrate
Once you have treated that stubborn pigmentation, now is the time to ensure that you guard against future attacks.Unprotected sun exposure is the number one culprit behind hyperpigmentation. Use Dermalogica Pure Light with spf 50 daily to ensure protection against the worst offender – UV rays! This moisturiser is packed full of hydrating ingredients so that your skin reflects light and glows.
In the evening nourish and restore skin luminosity and maximise results with Dermalogica Pure Night moisturiser containing an active blend of Oligopeptide brightening Vitamin C to help control melanin formation and hyperpigmentation while you sleep.
4. Masque
Dermalogica Charcoal Rescue masque is an all-in-one treatment masque detoxifies, brightens and invigorates normal to oily skin. Activated Binchotan Charcoal powerfully adsorbs impurities while Sulfur promotes cell turnover for dramatically brighter skin. Volcanic Ash, Sea Silt, Bamboo Extract and alpha hydroxy acids further accelerate skin brightening with dual-action exfoliation. After cleansing, apply generously to face and throat, avoiding the eye area. You may experience slight tingling. After 3 to 5 minutes, lightly massage with very wet hands to enhance exfoliation properties during removal. Rinse thoroughly.
Be patient. There's no quick fix for an uneven skin tone. Traditionally it takes at least 30 days of vigilant skin care treatment before you see any progress. Successful, 75 percent skin brightening can take up to four months, so don't give up!
                         The futures looking bright!

Teenage Skin

Teenage Skin is NOT Adult Skin We know that there may be a genetic predisposition to acne, however, teenage skin is different than adult skin, especially when it comes to acne. Hormones accompanying puberty, often as early as age 10, are actually the spark that triggers the development of breakouts & excess oiliness in the skin. With teenage acne, however, it may involve the entire face – particularly around the T-zone, forehead, nose, chin & cheeks, as well as the chest and back. Teenage Skin Is About More Than Acne: Being the most common skin complaint among teenagers, affecting nearly all of those in the 12 to 17 age bracket which brings with them an element of anxiety & social stigma, affecting their sense of self-esteem. Diet rich in high-glycemic index foods (sugars, white flour, & snacks) appear to elevate insulin levels and,in turn, can stimulate sebum production. Encouraging a healthy diet with plenty of fruits & vegetables can definitely be a step in the right direction
Hair: a lot of hair-styling products contain plastics, perfumes & other ingredients that are not healthy for skin. We often see breakouts around the hairline, cheeks & jaw when the product comes in contact with the skin. Going to bed with hair product still in place, ends up with the product getting pressed into the skin while they sleep. Perhaps replacing the pillowcase every few days, tying long hair back& brushing out styling products before bed.
Make-up: When sharing make-up at school, bacteria can be transferred from compacts, sponges, pads, lip glosses, eye pencils and mascara wands and can trigger acne or worse skin conditions, which are not things they want to share with their friends.
Before Bed: It is so important to remove make-up (along with sweat and other surface debris) from you skin before sleep. Often teens will probe & pick at their skin, squeezing breakouts, but this is can only result in long term scarring & spreading bacteria. To safely perform extractions, first properly cleanse the face and hands using Clear Start Foaming Wash, this foaming wash clears away dead skin cells, dirt and excess oils that clog pores & cause breakouts. Use on your face back neck...whever skin requires deep cleaning. After cleansing, wrap the index fingers in tissue - no dirty fingernails - Using gentle pressure, make a mound around the breakout, wiggle the impaction out, & then immediately treat the blemished area with a product containing ingredients like Salicylic Acid or Tea Tree Oil such as Clear Start Overnight Treatment works all night to fight brekouts and ensure you awake with less congestion, fewer breakouts & reduced redness.
Sensitivity and erythema: These symptoms are often the result of incorrect products such as aggressive scrubs, as well as over-drying & over-stimulating products. Harsh exfoliants, alkaline soaps & alcohol-containing astringents can strip the skin, making it sensitized & dehydrated. Clear Start Pore Control Scrub helps soak up excess oil & debris controls shine.
Teenage Skin Needs a Clear Routine: Skin at any age craves healthy ingredients and a daily routine. Most teenagers are looking for products to help banish breakouts & bacteria, control oiliness & reduce inflammation.
Formulas with medicating ingredients like Salicylic Acid & Benzoyl Peroxide, combined with gentle botanicals, are tough on breakouts, but kind to skin. An at-home regimen for day & night can be combined with targeted treatment products for extra clearing. For cleansers, the objective is not to get skin squeaky clean; a skin that squeaks is crying out for help! Teenagers often get overly-aggressive with scrubs, pads & invasive products.
Choose products that deep-clean & purify skin without stripping it of natural oils. Teenage skin requires hydration & moisture protection; the goal is not to remove every drop of sebum. A foaming wash such as Clear Start Foaming Wash with Salicylic Acid exfoliates skin cells & clears trapped oil to help wipe out existing & future breakouts, keep the skin calm and help regulate excessive sebum.
It is hip to hydrate, however, many teenagers do not understand toners. Stripping the skin with alcohol-based astringents can lead to dehydration & cause even more oil production! Purifying mists such as Clear Start All Over Toner can help control excess oil, providing excellent hydration, & eliminating breakouts on the face & body & normalize sebum secretion while Orange Peel and Lavender soothe & refresh the skin.
Exfoliation is an important step in skin care. Avoiding over-exfoliation and harsh scrubs that can tear the skin & cause more damage. Mild physical & chemical exfoliants can slough off excessive poreclogging skin cells. Try Clear Start Pore Control Scrub is tough on breakouts & gentle on your skin.
Using spot treatments on blemishes versus picking at breakouts. Popping pimples or picking at the skin can lead to further damage such as acne scars. Topical formulas such as Clear Start Emergency Spot Fix with Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic Acid kill breakout-causing bacteria deep within pores. They are designed to clear breakouts fast & help resist the temptation to squeeze pimples. An oil-free moisturizer such as Clear Start Matte Moisturiser can keep sebum under control with ingredients like Niacinamide, while Silicones protect skin balance without drying it out. For a hydrating formulas that control oily areas like the nose & forehead & an all-over matte finish you can use Clear Start Hydrating Lotion
We can all be appearance-conscious, but a teenager’s appearance during their formative years truly affects their self-esteem in profound & lasting ways. Teenagers actually rank appearance & facial skin in their top three priorities. Here are some useful skincare tips · Practice a proper homecare routine that includes daily cleansing. · Apply sunscreen daily. · Never pick pimples (unless you have been taught the proper extraction method). · If your hands are dirty, do not touch your face at all. · Pillowcases should be changed weekly (at least) to avoid sleeping on bacteria, saliva andexcess sebum. · If you have acne on your back or chest, sleep in a clean cotton shirt. · Keep a clean cloth for your face in your school locker, especially if you are involved withsports or other activities that cause sweating. · After cleansing, reapply any sunscreen moisturizer or product for acneic skin. · For blemishes on the forehead, avoid using hair products and wearing hats or helmets for long periods of time. · Eat a healthy and well-balanced diet. · You should not wear too much make-up to cover up blemishes. A quality, mineral can be applied lightly if needed.

What to Expect When You're Expecting

What To Expect When You're Expecting.
Every part of the body goes through changes during pregnancy, & the skin is no exception. Skin changes occur in about 90% of pregnant women, in one form or another, due to the surge of hormones. Pregnancy glow is not a myth. Blood volume increases during pregnancy by almost 50%, so vascular changes such as flushing and inflammation are not surprising. In addition to redness, sebaceous glands may produce increased secretions, giving the skin an oily sheen or shine with the result of acne & hypigmentation.
Here are some of the most common skin changes during pregnancy, as well as a short list of ingredients considered safe and others to be avoided.
The Mask of Pregnancy - Melasma – or the mask of pregnancy – is the most common change associated with pregnancy. It is characterized by irregularly shaped light or dark brown patches of hyperpigmentation. This discoloration & darkening usually found on the chin, upper lip, cheeks & forehead. Melasma cannot be prevented, but intensity can be minimized using brightening serums, such as C12 Pure Bright Serum, proper exfoliation and limiting exposure to ultraviolet light. For safe exfoliation, use Lactic Acid to resurface and brighten the skin such as Daily Microfoliant, Daily Superfoliant. Daily use of an SPF 30+ is a must. Physical sunscreens like Titanium Dioxide & Zinc Oxide tend to be preferred choices, as they reflect heat away from the skin – perfect for the pregnancy-flushed face.
Avoid using Hydroquinone during pregnancy. Studies have shown its topical use on humans is systemically absorbed.
Psoriasis, Eczema or Rosacea - If you are predisposed to psoriasis, eczema or rosacea. Symptoms can worsen for some, while conditions can improve for others during pregnancy. Reasons for this are unclear and it depends on the individual. Be aware of rashes, dry skin and general itchiness potentially coming & going during pregnancy; however, if it becomes severe, you should seek advice from your doctor.
We suggest a gentle skin care routine during your pregnancy such as cleansing gel or cream cleansers such as Essential Cleansing Solution, Special Cleansing Gel and Ultracalming cleanser which contain calming & soothing ingredients like Panthenol, Bisabolol and Red Hogweed. Barrier-building ingredients such as Oat Kernel (Avena Sativa), Sunflower Seed Extract and Borage Seed Oil reduce irritation. Opt for Redness Relief Primer with conditioning silicones and a green tint to neutralize skin sensitivity. Avoid abrasive exfoliation or harsh scrubs. Avoid the hot showers & products containing artificial fragrances, which can further aggravate sensitized skin.
Acne - The influx of the hormones progesterone, estrogen & other androgens during pregnancy can stimulate the sebaceous glands & the sweat glands, resulting in more perspiration & breakouts. With an increase in sebum, the skin becomes oilier, follicles are blocked & acne may appear on the face, & occasionally the chest & back. It is important to keep the skin clear & shine-free by opting for oil-absorbing clays such as Bentonite & Kaolin  as in Skin Refining Masque. Banish breakout-causing bacteria with Lactobacillus Ferment, Zinc Gluconate and Spirea Ulmaria Extract. If pustules and papules are the challenge, some doctors approve low concentrations of Benzoyl Peroxide as a spot treatment such as Breakout Control. High levels of Salicylic Acid are definitely a no-no. Even though studies have not been conducted on its effects topically with pregnant women, doctors anecdotally recommend that pregnant women should avoid using high concentrations of Salicylic Acid. However, small amounts of Salicylic Acid in a spot treatment or a wash-off product used once or twice a day is typically considered safe. Steer clear of products covering more areas or that sit for longer periods of time on the skin.
Lastly, retinoids are one of the skin care ingredients expectant moms should also avoid. These powerful substances help reduce wrinkles & improve skin tone, but some studies have shown high doses of Vitamin A during pregnancy can be harmful to an unborn child. Avoid prescription retinoids & oral retinoids, which are known to cause birth defects & should not be taken.

How Does Menopause Affect the Skin?

The following changes begin to occur in the skin:
Oily Skin: During the reproductive years, B-Estradiol stimulates a more fluid sebaceous gland secretion (“anti-acne” effect).  as estrogen levels decrease, testosterone is no longer masked in the woman’s body.
Testosterone reveals itself by stimulating sebaceous glands to secrete thicker sebum, giving the appearance of oily skin (and the tendency toward adult acne in some women).
Tip: Try Dermalogica Breakout Control to control excess sebum without drying effects.
Facial Hair: Also due to the unmasking of testosterone, some women may develop facial hair, particularly in the chin area.
Sagging Skin and Wrinkles: Estrogens stimulate fat deposits over the female body; as estrogen levels drop during menopause, fat deposits tend to become redistributed.
The result is a loss of supportive fat below the skin of the face, neck, hands and arms; this allows sagging wrinkles to appear.
Elastosis: Protein synthesis, particularly that of collagen and elastin, are partially controlled by estrogens and with the lowered estrogen levels result in less production and repair of collagen and elastin in the dermis of the skin.
This lack of repair is particularly pronounced if the skin is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays. UV rays are very destructive to collagen, and if we lose our repair mechanism, then we lose our skin’s resiliency. This results in elastosis.
Thinning Epidermis: The growth and maintenance of blood capillaries in the dermis are partially under the control of the estrogens. When blood flow through the dermal capillaries is reduced during menopause, and less nutrients and oxygen are available to the Stratum Germinativum or Basal Cell layers of the epidermis, it contributes to the thinning of the epidermis and a slower cell turnover rate, leading to increased trans-epidermal water loss and dry skin.
An interesting note, the cells that make up the surface of the skin are similar in structure to those of the urinary tract and vagina. When a woman begins to notice changes in her skin (wrinkling, sagging, dryness, flaking, loss of resiliency, etc.), there are similar changes occurring in the lining of the urethra, bladder and vagina. Thus, the skin may be revealing other tell-tale signs of menopause.
More Prone to Sun Damage: The maintenance of Melanocytes (cells that manufacture the pigment Melanin) is under the control of estrogens. During menopause, the number of melanocytes in the skin is reduced (they degenerate). With less melanocytes, we produce less of the protective melanin and skin appears lighter. making the skin more prone to sun damage, aware of  protecting the skin with a sunblock.
Tip: Try Dermalogica Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 to protect from sun damage.
Hyperpigmentation / Age Spots: Estrogens also temper melanin production. In areas of the skin that have been exposed to UV rays over the years, as menopause arrives, melanin synthesis increases (due to lack of regulation by estrogen). This can result in brown “age spots” appearing on the face, hands, neck, arms and chest of many women.
Tip: Try Power Bright treatment kit to treat hyperpigmentation.
Hot Flashes: Hot flashes are typically defined by a strong sense of warmth in the skin, (mainly the face), followed by excessive sweating. It had long been thought that hot flashes were caused directly by the abrupt lowering of B-Estradiol levels, but we now know that a woman’s sympathetic nervous system is more active after menopause because of low estrogen, causing the dilation of skin arterioles and sweating, as well as the rise in body temperature and an increase in heart rate. Hour-to-hour changes in the secretion of the Luteinizing Hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland of post-menopausal women have also been associated with hot flashes.
Tip: Try Dermalogica Antioxidant HydraMist to refresh and firm the skin.
Menopause affects much more than the skin. Some possible internal symptoms can include dizziness, numbness, heart palpitations, insomnia, backaches and dry mouth,
among others.

  • SKIN CARE TIPS FOR THE BEST SKIN.

If you’ve been following awards season this year, you can’t have missed seeing the flawlessly dewy skin of Hollywood’s A-list stars who absolutely nailed this look at
The Oscars. Glowing, luminous, skin has been on trend for the past few seasons and it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
So what’s their secret?
Well, if you want to replicate the results it’s all about ‘acing your base’!
Think of your skin as a ‘canvas’ for your makeup. The perfect picture always starts with the perfect prime, the better the canvas preparation the better the end result.
Here are 5 simple steps to ‘acing your base’!
1.. Perform a thorough Cleanse
This may sound like an obvious step, but you’d be surprised how many people get it wrong. One of the most common mistakes is spending sufficient time and using incorrect products, both of which can pay a heavy toll on the skin.
It’s important to always double cleanse, the first time with a deep cleansing oil such as Dermalogica PreCleanse to remove all traces of surface dirt and congestion,
and the second with your preferred Dermalogica cleanser. Concentrate on areas that feel congested or have bumpiness.
Ensure to remove your cleanser thoroughly.

2..Exfoliation
The smoother and softer the skin, the more perfect the finish.
After thoroughly cleansing, it’s time to apply a Rice Bran based microfoliation powder. Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. This gentle product will brighten the skin and
‘polish’ the surface leaving a super smooth, luminous finish. Using a gentle product such as this means that you won’t have to worry about over-exfoliation, which can result in redness and sensitivity showing through your makeup.

3..Hydration
To treat any dehydration lines and dry patches, apply a fine layer of a hydrating serum.
Look for Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster that contains Hyaluronic Acid
(an incredible ingredient that has the power to hold 1,000 times its own weight in moisture within the skin). This extra boost of hydration will add volume and plumpness to the skin, leaving a dewy finish.

4.. Moisturise
If you’re prone to an oily shine, apply a ‘treatment’ moisturizer, such as Dermalogica Clearing Mattifier or Dermalogica Oil Control Lotion. These mattifying moisturizers are
super lightweight, oil-free and contain clever ingredients to control shine such as Niacinamide(reduces excess skin oils) and Enantia Chlorantha Bark (reduces pore size, oil flow and creates less shine). If your skin is dry, try to avoid heavy, oily moisturizers, as these tend toencourage your makeup to slide off. Instead, use a lightweight moisturizer that contains a complex of vitamins A, C, E, Panthenol (B5), as well as nourishing essential fatty acids such as Shea Butter, Evening Primrose, Borage Seed or Jojoba oils.
Look at Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream or Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance,
or for an oil-free lightweight moisturiser to hydrate combinaton skin Dermalogica Active Moist.

5.. Primer
The piece de resistance of your flawless finish. Dermalogica AGE smart skinperfect primer contains velvety silicones as they help even the skin texture, creating an instantly smooth surface for your foundation to go on.
Primers such as Dermalogica Hydrablur contains natural earth minerals such as Pearl Powder will provide a perfect natural tint, balancing the skin tone, diminishing blemishes but not adding too much colour.
A good primer will enhance the skin’s luminosity and radiance, hold your makeup in place and increases the lasting power of makeup on the skin.
Dermalogica have treatment primers that go beyond the function of a makeup base and will work to treat your skin condition whether it is oily, pigmented or dry.
Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer contain SPF to protect against UV

Don’t feel overwhelmed with these product steps – in addition to your usual cleanse, exfoliate, moisturise, there are only two very simple, quick extras:                             Hydrate, and Prime. All well worth the extra bit of effort when you see the amazing results you can achieve.

The Positive Side of Stress.

The condition of stress has been placed into two categories, DISTRESS or EUSTRESS.Distress is the 'bad stuff' it is excessive and or prolonged levels of stress on the body. This stress fuels feelings of strain, anxiety and defeat, as well as depression. This is the stuff that takes us off our 'A' game, we just don't or can't perform at our best, feel overwhelmed, don't think clearly or react to situations as well. It leads to exhaustion, fatigue, burn-out, bursts of depression and has a negative impact on our health. Eustress is the 'good' stuff', the positive, beneficial kind. This is the kind that atheletes need to drive them to win, the stress we feel on a first date, musicians and actors all feel before going out onstage. This stress drives our motivation and feelings of accomplishment.              CAN SOME STRESS ACTUALLY BE GOOD FOR OUR HEALTH?                    Researchers believe that some stress can help to fortify our body's immune system by improving how your heart works helping to protect the body from infection. Those who experienced moderate levels of stress before surgery were able to recover faster than individuals who had low or high levels.                                                                        PREMATURE AGEING Stress can be the culprit for increased levels of dehydration, with skin losing volume, looks lifeless, flakey, and tight. Fine dehydration lines are particularly apparent around the eyes and give us a tired appearance. Pigmentation caused by an over-secretion of cortisone which is attracted to the melanin resulting in excess pigment and skin discolouration.                                                                                      BREAKOUTS  Stress is a direct trigger of breakouts as a result of hormonal fluctuations in the skin stimulating the sebaceous gland activity.                                                             EYE PUFFINESS  Poor sleep, water retention in the tissues and capillaries that can stretch and leak can all lead to eye puffiness as can lack of proper nutrition. Often when we are feeling stressed we reach for junk food, processed foods and excess salt intake can generate puffiness under the eyes. Lack of sleep can worsen the appearance of dark circles. If you're tired the blood circulation tends to slow down, allowing oxygenated blood to pool and become more visible under the thin skin around the eyes, giving dark circles a more purplish hue.                                                                                                  SOLUTION: Powerful cosmecuticals, key players being anti-oxidants, peptides such as olgiopeptide for pigmentation and for lines, retinol. sebum regulating ingredients, professional exfoliation.                                                                                       Dermalogicas new Stress Positive Eye Lift   is an amazing new product that you simply must try.                                                                                                                             First you exfoliate with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant then apply Stress Positive Eye Lift   This active, cooling cream-gel masque minimises the appearance of puffiness and dark circles, increases skin luminosity, lifts the eye area and helps restore skin barrier integrity. Hyaluronic Acid blend firms skin to help generate a lifting effect.                                             Super Tip You can also apply lightly over makeup for extra luminosity or use as an inflight pick me up for tired eyes.

Nightly Lip Treatment - No need for anti-wrinkle injections

Nightly Lip Treatment NEW PRODUCT
Say goodnight to lip lines as Dermalogicas new Lip Treatment smoothes away the appearance of laugh and feather lines while you sleep. This rich overnight formula firms, hydrates, and restores skin on and around the lips , improves skin elasticity, and helps control aging before it starts.
No need for anti-wrinkle injections and lip enhancements, here is your answer.
As we age, the formation of vertical lines above the upper lip, sagging in the mouth region, and feathering outside of the lips become more pronounced – especially for those with a history of smoking. Though the eyes are often thought to show the first signs of aging, the lip and mouth area develop some of the most dramatic visible differences.
Lips lack the same composition of oil and sweat glands that provide moisture to other areas of the face, while at the same time, saliva dries out lips’ natural oils. As a result, moisture evaporates from lips faster than the rest of the face, contributing to visible lines and feathering. The fat storage in our face changes, it disappears from our face and moves to our middle! We see folds starting to appear and lines and wrinkles forming due not only to the movement of fat cells, but also collagen and elastin breakdown. This nightly lip treatment is not just a superficial cream for the lip area, the ingredients are powerful workhorses literally working on those fat cells in the perioral region to bring about a change and help to increase volume.

CHOOSING THE BEST PRIMER FOR YOUR SKIN

What's The Best Primer For Your Skin?

In much the same way that a painter uses primer to smooth a surface so paint better adheres to it, facial primers even out the surface of the skin, providing a smoother canvas for a lasting make-up finish — or a natural, no make-up look. The last step in a skin care regimen, a primer also acts as a protective barrier and helps seal in the benefits of skin care products.

While the majority of cosmetic makeup primers focus on improving the appearance and wear of make-up, Dermalogica Primers bridge the divide between skin care and color cosmetics by optimizing skin health benefits to improve the look and feel of the skin.

HydraBlur Primer is the ideal multi-tasking primer for all skin conditions, particularly dry or dehydrated skin. A lightweight, non-greasy formula, it powerfully hydrates and transforms skin into an even surface with its neutral tint and dramatic "blurring" effect.

SkinPerfect Primer SPF30 is a make-up primer, sunscreen and treatment for skin aging in one. Designed to control and prevent skin-aging triggers, it helps fill fine lines and improve skin firmness while balancing skin tone and enhancing luminosity.

Redness Relief Primer SPF15 counteracts telltale skin redness and balances skin tone with a natural, sheer green tint while shielding skin from environmental irritation.

Dermalogica Primers can be worn alone or underneath make-up for a flawless finish.

Start with Multi-Active Toner, a refreshing toner that rehydrates with Aloe Vera and Cucumber. Mist over skin after cleansing to reduce tightness and lock in moisture.

Follow with Skin Hydrating Booster, a super-fluid that hydrates tissues and plumps parched skin. Apply 6 to 10 drops directly to skin, or mix with your favorite Dermalogica Moisturizer.

For an added boost, apply Skin Hydrating Masque 2 to 3 times a week after cleansing to calm, infuse skin with protective antioxidant vitamins, and restore moisture for fewer fine lines.

Remember, think layers when it comes to keeping skin healthy all winter long.
